SimpleHelper Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

SimpleHelper (“the App”) adds a store assistant chat to Shopify storefronts that answers shoppers’ questions from the store’s own content. This policy explains what information the App collects, why, and how it is handled. By installing the App you agree to this policy.

Information we collect from merchants

When you install SimpleHelper, we receive your shop’s myshopify domain and an API access token scoped to the permissions you grant: reading products and collections, online store content (pages, blogs and articles) and your store policies. We copy the public content of those items — titles, descriptions, prices, tags, images and page text — into a search index so the assistant can answer shoppers. We also store your subscription plan, your assistant settings (name, greetings, colors, fonts, contact details you enter) and the Top questions you write. We do not read or store your orders, customers, payment details or store passwords.

Information we collect from shoppers

When a shopper uses the chat, we store the text of each question together with its topic and whether it was answered, so merchants can see what their customers ask. Questions are stored anonymously: we do not record names, email addresses, IP addresses, customer accounts or order information alongside them, and the App sets no cookies. The conversation is kept in the shopper’s own browser session storage only so it survives page navigation. When a customer is signed in to the store, the chat greets them by first name; the name is inserted by the store’s page in their browser and is never sent to or stored by SimpleHelper. Shoppers should not type personal information into the chat; any such text is deleted with the question after 90 days.

To show merchants how the chat helps sales, the chat also reports anonymous events: that a chat was opened, that a product was clicked, and that a product was added to the cart from the chat (with the product and its price). These events carry no shopper identifiers. Adding to the cart uses the store’s own Shopify cart; SimpleHelper never sees the cart or checkout. If a shopper closes the chat invitation, the browser’s local storage remembers that for three days so the invitation isn’t shown again.

How the data is used

Store content is used only to answer shoppers on that same store. Logged questions are shown only to the merchant in their admin dashboard. We do not sell, rent, or share any merchant or shopper data with third parties, and we do not use it for advertising or to train AI models.

AI answers (optional, Enterprise plan)

By default SimpleHelper answers without any AI service. If a merchant on the Enterprise plan switches on AI answers, the store’s synced content (products, collections, pages, blog articles, policies, top questions and contact details) and the messages shoppers type in the chat are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to write the replies. Anthropic acts as our sub-processor; under its commercial terms, API data is not used to train its models. To let the AI follow a conversation, each chat is stored with a random identifier (no customer account or IP address) and deleted after 90 days, or immediately when the merchant uninstalls the App. Shoppers should not share sensitive personal information in the chat.

Where the data lives

Data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database and application servers hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). All traffic between your store, your shoppers, and the App is encrypted with HTTPS.

Data retention & deletion

Shopper questions and chat events are deleted automatically after 90 days. The App implements Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks. Because questions are not linked to any customer, customer data and erasure requests find no customer-identifying data to return or delete. When a merchant uninstalls SimpleHelper, the shop’s access token is invalidated immediately and all of the shop’s data — search index, settings, Top questions, logged questions and chat events — is deleted in line with Shopify’s 48-hour shop-redaction request.

Billing

Paid plans are billed entirely through Shopify’s billing system. We never see or store your payment details.
